Painting

There are two main methods of carpet painting: before (painting of a fiber or thread) and after production (coloring of a ready covering). Sometimes these methods are combined.

Monotone painting

In order to adjust tafting covering to monotonously painted carpet, manufactured from a white thread or yarn, passes through a dye bath. Under this and some other methods of painting only the surface of carpet is being painted.

Differentiated painting

While carpet manufacturing susceptibility feature of a white (mostly polyamide) thread or yarn to definite types of coloring agents (for instance, only to acid-based or only to alkaline) is often used. During painting of such carpet every thread in a dye bath absorbs a painting agent.

Printing

A finished tafting carpet can be colored by a printing method. Print can be adjusted by different ways. Here are the most well-known of them:

• 1. A printing technique by means of template cylinder. Under this method paint is given through a great number of microscopic holes in a metal cylinder, from which pattern is formed. While rolling of these cylinders on a carpet, a pattern is imprinted on its surface. In the given method of pattern application to the main advantages refer a high resolution and accuracy of printing. To drawbacks refers the fact that only pile top is colored, the period of a pattern precision is limited by a cylinder diameter and the number of the used colors, actually from 4 to 6.
  2. The most modern method is a method of ink-jet printing. Manufacturing machines which paint carpets by this method have different names, mostly known are Chromojet and Militron. They work like a usual ink-jet printer when paint is sprayed through nozzles into a pile surface of a carpet under a high pressure. Namely by these methods a design is applied into the finished and colored carpet. In the method of ink-jet printing it’s possible to use much more colors (usually up to 12), pattern area is practically not limited and pile is colored full-height (up to the basis). Besides, a dye machine is quickly reset and it enables to manufacture carpets with individual design (at a customer’s will).

Fiber painting

Fiber painting is an alternative for coloring of the finished goods. Coloring agent can be imported into raw material at the stage of thread production, or ready thread can be colored. In the first case the whole thread structure becomes colored, in the second – its surface only. But in both cases pile threads, but not an item surface, are colored full-length, that gives more stable coloring from all the existing methods, however this doesn’t allow to manufacture coverings with a pattern.
