Would you like to decorate your house, to make it special, to add comfort and warmth? Do you want your apartment to differ from your neighbors’ apartment? It is not that hard – just use a traditional luxurious element – a carpet.
The question is how to choose a carpet to suit your house style. For instance, if you are modern-lover, choose a single-color carpet with a light pattern. Its shape can be oval or round. And perhaps your interior has elements of Eastern style? In this case, you need a hand-made carpet with “Asian” motives. Note, this carpet shouldn’t be covered by furniture, otherwise its effect will be lost, as a peculiarity of an Eastern carpet is its complicated pattern or a whole plot. Are you classic-lover? Classic style is externalized through a carpet similar to Versailles canvas with outlandish patterns and pictures. By the way, carpets similar to pictures are very popular nowadays. They feature pictures copied from canvas of the outstanding artists.
In order not to destroy design harmony, properly choose a carpet shape, texture and color. If you want visually to enlarge a room, choose a carpet of light colors. A light room can be decorated by a carpet of cold colors; if a room is dark use some warm colors to make it a little bit warmer. Bright colors will make a room more spacious, and deep colors will make it cozier. An ideal solution for a sleeping-room is a light-colored carpet with long nap. Bright colors suit a playing-room. In this room just let your imagination guide you. Bright and merry patterns are the main elements for a playing-room. A carpet can depict the main characters of your child`s favorite fairy-tales and cartoons. Make sure that a carpet can be easily washed and doesn’t cause allergy for your child. In this case you`d better choose acryl, the best alternative to a synthetic material.
The best solution for passable rooms is a carpet of a high quality. It should be as thick as possible and be of a high solidity. A carpet should preferably be of a short nap. A bright example for a passable room can be a sitting-room. The sitting-room is a place where you meet your guest and have a rest with your relatives. Middle-sized carpets suit a sitting-room, but if it’s rather spacious choose a large carpet with a large ornament or pattern. Lay artificial carpets, resistant to abrasion and having waterproof treatment into a kitchen or a hall. A carpet with a foamed rubber base suits a bath room. Such carpets can be cotton or synthetic. A nice addition to the interior can be small-sized carpets. As a rule, these carpets are placed near a bad, a coffee-table or a sofa. They will not only decorate your room but also make a room cozier and warmer. There is noting more pleasant than to wake up in the morning and to step into a warm and spongy carpet near a bad.
They say, depending on their shape, that carpets have some energetic qualities. For instance, round carpets represent spirituality and peace. Lay such carpets to the rooms, where tranquility should rule: a sleeping-room, a dining-room, a sitting –room. Square or rectangular carpets will suit for a cabinet, a library, or an office. And an oval shape is suitable for every room.
A good carpet can be compared to an exquisite jewelry. There is a range of rules for selection of both a carpet and jewelry. If you want your carpet to become a real pleasure for you, consider the following rules while choosing it:
- 1. Dimensions. Carpet dimensions should correspond to room space. A middle-sized carpet (from 1×1.5 to 2×3 m) can become an independent element of room decoration and point a certain zone. A large-sized carpet ( from 2.5×3 and larger) can from a room image and to set a spirit of a whole flat. Small-sized carpets are ideal for decoration of separate room zones: a space in front of a fire-place, a bed or an arm-chair.
- 2. Color. A carpet is the strongest light beacon for each room and it should be in harmony with furniture and interior. Choosing a carpet note that light tones visually expand a space, and a large geometric decoration makes it smaller.
- 3. Content. Pay attention to carpet content. Content determines carpet durability and peculiarities of its use. Wool perfectly absorbs moisture, but a carpet can grow musty. Besides, wool is usually loved by moth. Ask a seller if a carpet was previously treated against moth, mold, and static charge. Silk carpets are very beautiful; they change their shade depending on a sight angle. Silk fiber is considered to be extremely solid; however, silk-made carpets demand special attention, careful maintenance and suit mostly for walls decoration. Synthetics is much cheaper, but has a low durability and loses its fresh look very fast.
- 4. Nap length. Carpets can be of a long-napped, short-napped and napless type. Long-napped carpets suit for sleeping-rooms, short-napped carpets – for sitting-rooms and play-rooms.
- 5. Density – is a quality showing a number of beads in a unit of product space. The more beads are in a square meter of a carpet, the more precise pattern is and the solider carpet is. Absolutely another parameter is used for hand-made carpets of a Chinese origin – a number of lines (rows) for a foot. Density is an important factor, denoting quality and a cost of a carpet, though always. Exceptions are the carpets made by nomads or in village work shops and antique carpets. Their cost depends on exclusiveness.
- 6. Type of manufacture. Carpets can be hand made (unique), weaved by a manufactory method (not a wide range) and manufactured in a shop floor and in industrial quantities. A hand-made carpet is being made for a long period of time. Besides it can be made with minor “mistakes” (sometimes they are made on purpose to verify that a carpet is really hand made). Tradition of a manufactory carpet production comes from the first centuries of our epoch, not so much has changed since that time in production methods. However, now we can order a carpet of a certain pattern, size and density. Industrially manufactured carpets are all almost similar. Their advantages are low cost, standard quality and quick manufacture.
- 7. Carpet age. In the East they say that a good carpet is like a wine, the older the more refined. That’s why aqsaqals recommend trampling a carpet for decades to make its nap split into fibers and become really soft. This rule is still valid for naturally hand made carpets, but it can be applied to carpets of other types. Besides, the real works of authorship can bring benefit to its owner: growing older they become really antique and their value correspondingly arises.
- 8. Producing country. Carpet weaving is developed in many countries: Iran, India, China, Nepal, Turkey, Middle Asia, Africa and some others. A carpet acquires a part of mentality. Besides, there are national traditions of carpet weaving – beginning from color grade to dimensions and designation. Consider culture and religion of a producing country in order not to get into a scrape and, for instance, not to lay a carpet meant for cultic and ritual purposes in a hall.
